Rewild Wildernisreizen

How Rewild sells wilderness trips off the grid with Bookinglayer

Who is Rewild Wildernisreizen?

Rewild is a wilderness travel company from the Netherlands that takes small groups off the grid, from the Scottish Highlands and the Georgian Caucasus to Swedish Lapland, Mongolia and the Atlas Mountains. Founded by Nick Platje, a wilderness guide, Mountain Leader and former marine, Rewild runs group expeditions, bouldering trips, team programmes and custom trips all year round with a team of around ten guides. Guests book, rent gear, and pay through Bookinglayer, which Rewild has used since 2021.

Interview with Nick Platje, founder of Rewild

Before using Bookinglayer, were you using any other system, or was it all manual? What was the biggest pain point of managing your bookings and operations?

Before Bookinglayer, almost everything was manual. Customers filled out a registration form, and from there we had to process everything ourselves. We manually kept track of bookings, payments, participant information, availability and communication. It worked when we were small, but as we grew it became increasingly time consuming and inefficient. We spent far too much time on administration instead of improving our trips and serving our customers.

What's the biggest thing that feels different since you started using Bookinglayer? Is there a specific part of it your business relies on most?

The biggest difference is that everything is centralized and easy to access. Instead of searching through spreadsheets, emails and documents, all the information we need is available in one place. That has made our daily operations much smoother. The biggest benefit is that we now spend less time managing bookings and much more time analyzing our business and improving our customer experience. Bookinglayer has become the operational backbone of our company.

What are the most important benefits Bookinglayer has brought to your business, whether that's time saved, more bookings, revenue growth, or something else entirely?

One of the biggest improvements is the amount of data and insight we now have. We can clearly see booking patterns, customer behavior, occupancy rates and revenue figures. That allows us to make much better business decisions instead of relying on intuition. On top of that, we've significantly reduced administrative work, which means we have more time to focus on growing the business and creating better wilderness experiences for our guests.

Beyond the business side, has Bookinglayer had a positive impact on your personal life or on your relationship with your business?

Absolutely. As the owner of an adventure travel company, I'm often away leading trips in remote places. It's a great feeling to know that bookings continue to come in while I'm out in the mountains or the wilderness, without everything depending on me being behind my laptop. That peace of mind has made a real difference. It allows me to be fully present during our trips while knowing the business keeps running smoothly.

If a fellow adventure travel or expedition operator asked you whether Bookinglayer is worth it, what would you tell them?

I would definitely recommend it. As your business grows, you reach a point where manual processes start holding you back. Bookinglayer helps you professionalize your operations, save a huge amount of administrative time, and gives you valuable insights into your business. It doesn't just make your work easier. It gives you the information and the confidence to keep growing.

In a nutshell, for a company like Rewild, Bookinglayer means:

  • Trips sold as complete packages. Accommodation, activities and extras like gear rental are booked together in one flow, on your own website.
  • Payments collected without chasing. Guests pay online with local methods like iDEAL and Bancontact, so there is no manual invoicing or checking bank transfers.
  • Guest details and communication in one place. Confirmations and participant information live in Bookinglayer, not across emails, forms and spreadsheets.
  • Clear insight into the business. Booking patterns, occupancy and revenue are visible at a glance, so decisions rest on data rather than intuition.
  • A business that runs while you are away. Bookings keep coming in while you lead a trip with zero signal.

Bookinglayer is the first booking software built around packages, created for adventure travel and wilderness expedition companies like Rewild.
